About the Award:
The Graduate School coordinates a partly-structured, full-time doctoral scholarship program and administers the doctoral scholarships. It also coordinates multi- and interdisciplinary research themes to help prepare Africa’s next generation of academics and professionals.
The focus is on addressing critical challenges such as poverty eradication and the promotion of peace and democracy. Collaborative research, (co)supervision, and exchange are encouraged through PANGeA (Partnership for Africa’s Next Generation of Academics), involving leading universities in Africa.

Eligibility:
- Applicants must be from African countries, with priority given to candidates from PANGeA partner institutions.
- Must have obtained 70% in the final year of their previous degree.
- Must provide a sample of writing:
- MA thesis for PhD applicants
- Any published academic articles related to the application
- Must be under 35 years old at the date of application.
- Must be able to commence studies in February 2025.

- Applicants from PANGeA institutions must obtain a nomination letter from their institution and submit it with the application.

- Preference for applicants from sub-Saharan Africa for compatibility in university and linguistic backgrounds.
- Among South African applicants, preference for CBI (Coloured, Black, and Indian) candidates.
- Preference for non-South African applicants with nominations supported by PANGeA institutions.
