NECO GCE Examination Rules and Instructions
Candidates should pay attention to the following instructions when preparing for the examination.
1. Arrive at the examination centre early
Candidates are expected to be seated 30 minutes before the commencement of each paper. Do not plan to arrive at the exact examination time.
This is particularly important for candidates who have multiple papers on the same day or who have to travel some distance to their examination centre.
2. Bring your photocard
Candidates are required to have their photocard for identification.
Candidates should check their examination documents before leaving home to ensure that the required identification document is available.
3. Check the virtual question paper
Where the examination time printed on the virtual question paper differs from the time shown on the timetable, candidates are required to follow the time stated on the virtual question paper.
This means candidates should not rely exclusively on a timetable copied or shared on social media. They should pay attention to the examination information provided with the actual paper.
4. Extra time for albino and blind candidates
Albino and blind candidates will be given 30 minutes of extra time across all papers.
Candidates who fall under this provision should make the necessary arrangements with their examination centre.
5. Scientific calculators are allowed
Scientific calculators are allowed in the examination.
However, candidates should distinguish between an ordinary scientific calculator and prohibited electronic communication devices. Programmable calculators are prohibited, along with other prohibited electronic gadgets.
6. Electronic communication devices are prohibited
Candidates must not bring prohibited electronic communication devices into the examination hall.
The listed prohibited devices include:
- Mobile phones
- iPads
- Tablets
- Smart wrist watches
- Smart glasses
- Smart pens
- Programmable calculators
Candidates should avoid taking any prohibited device to the examination venue.

| Problem | What to Check | What to Do |
| The time on the timetable differs from the question paper | Compare both times carefully | Follow the time stated on the virtual question paper |
| You cannot find your photocard | Check your examination documents before leaving home | Ensure you have the required photocard for identification |
| You may arrive late | Check the starting time and plan your journey | Be seated at least 30 minutes before the paper |
| You are unsure whether your calculator is permitted | Check the type of calculator | Scientific calculators are allowed; programmable calculators are prohibited |
| You are carrying an electronic device | Check whether it falls under the prohibited devices | Do not take mobile phones, tablets, smart watches, smart glasses, smart pens or other prohibited gadgets into the hall |

How to Prepare With the NECO GCE Timetable
Do not simply save the timetable on your phone and forget about it. Use it to organise your revision.
Start by writing down the dates of the subjects you registered for. Then work backwards from each examination date and create a revision schedule that gives you enough time to revise the syllabus, practise past questions and review topics you find difficult.
For subjects with multiple papers on the same day, pay particular attention to the sequence and duration of each paper. For example, English Language on 14 November has three papers, beginning at 10:00 am and continuing until 2:00 pm.
You should also check your examination centre and plan your journey ahead of time. Since candidates are expected to be seated 30 minutes before each paper, leaving home at the examination start time is not an option.
