Police Neutralize Three Suspected Kidnappers in Delta State

Three suspected kidnappers were fatally shot during a gun battle with operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) under the Delta State Police Command.

According to reports, the team—led by ASP Robinson Julius and deployed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda—was on a covert patrol along the Ughelli-Patani Road on Tuesday. At Ewhereni Junction, the officers stopped a commercial shuttle bus for a routine check.

Upon sighting the police, the suspects onboard the vehicle opened fire in an attempt to flee. This prompted a shootout with the police. Three of the suspects sustained critical injuries during the exchange and later died in the hospital. Others managed to escape and are currently being sought.

Police recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with 18 rounds of live ammunition from the scene.

In a separate operation, the CP-SAT team arrested multiple suspects linked to kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism. Among those apprehended was Ifeanyi Okolie, popularly known as “Black Jesus,” who was accused of robbing motorcyclists and stealing valuables in Asaba and its environs.

Okolie led police operatives to a bush hideout where three locally-made guns, four live cartridges, and a suspected stolen motorcycle were recovered. Three other suspects—Ogochukwu Emmanuel, Joseph Egwu, and Yakubu Yusuf—were also arrested in connection with the case.

Additionally, a Beretta pistol was recovered from a suspect known as “Nino,” who remains at large.

Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the CP-SAT team for their successful operations.

“These breakthroughs reflect our unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of all residents across Delta State,” he stated.

He praised the officers for their professionalism and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through the police emergency contact lines.

Investigations are ongoing.
