KeymasterHey forum fam! Big news out of Kano State has everyone talking. A Magistrate Court in Gyadi Gyadi just sentenced Umar Hashim, aka Tsulange, a popular TikToker, to one year in prison for indecent public conduct. According to reports, this ruling’s got the internet buzzing with opinions! Let’s dive into the details and get the convo going.
The court, led by Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan, found Tsulange guilty after he starred in a viral comedy skit where he was seen “bathing” on a public road while wearing women’s underwear. The video, meant as a joke, blew up online but rubbed authorities and some locals the wrong way.
Magistrate Hassan ruled that the skit crossed the line on public decency and moral standards, slapping Tsulange with a one-year jail term or an ₦80,000 fine as an option. Plus, he’s got to pay ₦20,000 to the Kano State Censorship Board to cover their investigation and prosecution costs.
Tsulange was first arrested in June 2025 after the skit dropped, sparking a firestorm of debate. Some of you on X are calling it “just a harmless prank” and arguing for creative freedom, while others are cheering the court for cracking down on what they see as “moral decay” in online content. This case is shining a spotlight on the clash between Nigeria’s vibrant social media scene and the conservative values, especially up north where censorship laws are no joke.
