Peter University Receives NUC Approval for 11 New Academic Programmes; Peter University, Achina/Onneh, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence admissions into 11 new academic programmes.

The approval followed a successful resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC, during which the commission assessed the university’s academic and physical resources to determine its readiness to offer the programmes.

Admission into the newly approved courses is currently ongoing for the 2026/2027 academic session.

NUC Approves 11 New Programmes for Peter University

The National Universities Commission has approved the following academic programmes for Peter University:

  • Medical Laboratory Science
  • Radiography
  • Physiotherapy
  • Human Anatomy
  • Physiology
  • Data Science
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Social Work
  • Psychology
  • Public Administration
  • Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE)

Prospective students can now apply for admission into any of these programmes during the ongoing 2026/2027 admission exercise.

Approved Health and Medical Science Programmes

Among the newly approved programmes are five health and medical science courses:

  • Medical Laboratory Science
  • Radiography
  • Physiotherapy
  • Human Anatomy
  • Physiology

These programmes received approval after the university successfully met the NUC’s academic and infrastructural requirements during the resource verification exercise.

Approved Computing Programmes

Peter University has also been granted approval to offer the following computing-related programmes:

  • Data Science
  • Artificial Intelligence

Both programmes are available for admission in the 2026/2027 academic session.

Approved Social Science and Public Affairs Programmes

The NUC approval also covers four programmes in the social sciences and public affairs disciplines:

  • Social Work
  • Psychology
  • Public Administration
  • Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE)

The Politics, Philosophy and Economics programme may also be referred to by its abbreviation, PPE.

Why the NUC Approved the Programmes

The approval was granted after the National Universities Commission conducted a comprehensive resource verification exercise at Peter University.

During the exercise, the commission evaluated the university’s academic facilities, physical infrastructure and other resources to ensure they met the standards required for the commencement of the new programmes.

Following the successful verification, the university received approval to begin admitting students into the approved courses.

The Vice-Chancellor of Peter University, Rev. Fr. Professor Chukwuemenam Umezinwa, described the approval as another major milestone in the institution’s development.
