About the DAAD Tropical Forestry Program:

The 2-year MSc course in Tropical Forestry at TU Dresden is internationally oriented and socio-economically focused, making it a unique program in Europe. The course covers general and specific topics, including climate change-related carbon forestry, agroforestry, and land-use change. Students benefit from the diverse international background of research and lecturing scientists who supervise field research in tropical regions. Additionally, as a public university, TUD exempts students from tuition fees.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the DAAD Tropical Forestry Masters Scholarships, applicants must:

  • Hold a university degree (at least B.Sc. or equivalent) in forestry or related fields such as agriculture, horticulture, land-use or regional planning, geography, water management/hydrology, biology, ecology, regional development, or governance of natural resources.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English (TOEFL 80 iBT/550 PBT/213 CBT or IELTS 6.0) if English is not their native language or was not the medium of instruction during their BSc studies. An attestation of English proficiency must be attached to the application.

The DAAD Tropical Forestry scholarship covers the following benefits:

  • Monthly payments of 850 euros for graduates or 1,200 euros for doctoral candidates.
  • Payments towards health, accident, and personal liability insurance.
  • Travel allowance, unless covered by the home country or another funding source.

Under certain conditions, scholarship holders may receive additional benefits, including:

  • Monthly rent subsidy.
  • Monthly allowance for accompanying family members.

How to Apply:

Applications for the MSc course starting in October of the next year must be submitted between 1st September and 30th October of the year prior. The application portal will be open during this period to accept submissions. Only complete applications will be considered, and applications sent via post or email will not be accepted.

Important Information:

  • If applying to more than one course, applicants must list the courses in order of priority on the DAAD application forms and maintain these priorities in all respective applications.
  • When applying for more than one postgraduate course (up to a maximum of three), applicants must submit one motivation letter explaining why they are applying for these specific courses and their chosen priority.
