Kano-COEASU set to embark on an indefinite strike over staff welfare; The Federal College of Education (Technology), Bichi chapter of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), has announced plans to go on indefinite strike due to the school administration’s inability to address its demands, which include the release of TETFund approved funds, insecurity, and poor sanitation, payment of allowances, and a lack of internet services, among other things.

The lecturers who announced the commencement of the strike on Wednesday, April 12, said the school, though a tertiary institution, is more of a glorified secondary school due to the alarming rate of insecurity, lawlessness, and lack of equipment and consumables.
Dr. Hussaini Yahaya Peni, the union president, told journalists that it was unfortunate that the union had no choice but to go on strike due to the management’s inability to implement the resolutions of August 28th, 2022, and January 10th, 2023, which were based on issues of quality academic standards and other issues affecting staff welfare.
According to Peni, the union delayed earlier intentions to strike on August 23, 2022, after reaching an agreement with school administration on August 28, 2022, and January 10, 2023, regarding quality academic standards and other concerns affecting staff welfare. He stated that the incapacity of management to implement the decision necessitates industrial action.
