WAEC Ministry of Education Debunk Rumored Cancellation of 2025 WASSCE; The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Federal Ministry of Education have dismissed rumors’ claiming that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) was cancelled due to examination malpractice.
In separate press statements released today, both institutions described the reports as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to create panic among candidates and stakeholders.
WAEC Confirms 2025 WASSCE Results Will Be Released August 4
WAEC, in a statement signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, confirmed that the marking of 2025 WASSCE scripts has been completed, and the results are scheduled for release on or before Monday, August 4, 2025.
The Council stressed that:
- “The 2025 WASSCE has not been cancelled, and no official communication regarding any cancellation has been issued.”
WAEC urged candidates, parents, and schools to rely only on verified sources, such as its official website and social media platforms, for accurate information.
Ministry of Education Warns Against Fake News
The Federal Ministry of Education, in a press release dated July 20, 2025, also debunked the rumour, describing the alleged cancellation as “entirely fabricated, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary panic.”
The Ministry further clarified that it had received no official communication from WAEC or NECO suggesting that any examination was cancelled due to malpractice.
