UPTH Admission Into Post-Basic Nursing Programmes for 2026/2027 Session; University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital has announced the commencement of admission into its Post-Basic Nursing programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The admission exercise is being conducted through the UPTH College of Nursing Sciences and is open to qualified nurses seeking advanced professional training in specialised nursing fields.

The available programmes will run for 12 calendar months and will lead to the award of a Post-Basic Diploma in either Paediatric Nursing or Accident and Emergency Nursing.

Qualified candidates are advised to complete their applications before the official deadline.

Available Post-Basic Nursing Programmes at UPTH

The UPTH College of Nursing Sciences is offering admission into the following Post-Basic Diploma programmes:

  • Paediatric Nursing
  • Accident and Emergency Nursing

Each programme is designed to run for a duration of 12 calendar months.

Applicants are expected to select the programme that aligns with their professional goals and area of nursing interest, as the admission process and entrance examination will cover both options.

UPTH Post-Basic Nursing Admission Requirements

Candidates interested in applying must satisfy all admission requirements before submitting their application forms.

Academic Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • SSCE with at least five credit passes in not more than two sittings
  • Required subjects include:
    • English Language
    • Mathematics
    • Biology
    • Physics
    • Chemistry

UPTH stated that Biology cannot be substituted with Health Science.

Candidates are permitted to combine WAEC and NECO results, provided the required subjects and sitting conditions are satisfied.

Professional Requirements

Applicants must also:

  • Be registered as a Nurse or Midwife
  • Have a minimum of one year post-qualification working experience

The institution further noted that candidates with a B.NSc and PGDE qualification will have an added advantage during the admission process.

How UPTH Will Select Candidates

Selection of candidates will be based on:

  • Academic qualifications
  • Entrance examination performance
  • Other stated admission conditions

The entrance examination will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT).

Applicants are advised to prepare thoroughly, as UPTH will assess both submitted credentials and examination performance during the selection process.

How to Apply for UPTH Post-Basic Nursing Admission

Candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of ₦20,000 through the School Remittal Platform of the UPTH College of Nursing Sciences.

After payment, applicants should:

  1. Present the payment teller to the College Bursar
  2. Obtain an official receipt
  3. Use the receipt to collect the application form from the Office of the Registrar, College of Nursing Sciences

Applicants are advised to keep their payment receipts safe, as proof of payment will be required before application forms can be issued.

Closing Date for Submission of Forms

Completed application forms, alongside photocopies of all relevant credentials, must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office on or before:

Friday, 11 September 2026

Candidates are encouraged to complete the process early to avoid issues associated with late submission.

UPTH Post-Basic Nursing Entrance Examination Date

The entrance examination has been scheduled as follows:

  • Date: Wednesday, 18 September 2026
  • Venue: College Auditorium
  • Time: 10:00 am prompt

The examination will cover applicants for both Paediatric Nursing and Accident and Emergency Nursing programmes.

Candidates are also expected to present the original copies of their certificates and valid practising licences during the interview process on the same day.

Important Notice for Applicants Outside Rivers State

Applicants travelling from outside Rivers State are expected to make personal arrangements for accommodation and feeding during the interview period.

UPTH did not indicate that accommodation or feeding would be provided for candidates.
