UNIZIK Warns Against Illegal Collection and Extortion of Money from Students. The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has issued a strong warning to both staff and students following reports of illegal collection and extortion of money within the institution.
In a memo released after its 361st Management Meeting held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, the University expressed serious concern over the increasing cases of staff—both academic and non-academic—forcibly collecting money from students under various false pretenses.
The management noted that such acts often compel students to make payments they should not be responsible for, describing the practice as unethical, exploitative, and unacceptable.
Management’s Directives
To curb the practice, the University has issued the following directives:
- No staff member is permitted to extort or collect money from students illegally under any guise.
- Any staff found guilty of engaging in extortion or unauthorized monetary demands will face strict disciplinary actions and sanctions.
Instructions to Students
Students have also been cautioned to take the following steps to protect themselves and uphold the integrity of the institution:
- Do not offer money to any staff member—whether voluntarily or under pressure—for academic or administrative favors.
- Report any case of extortion or illegal payment immediately to the University Authorities through official channels.
- Make all legitimate payments only into the approved University, Faculty, or Departmental accounts.
- Under no circumstances should students make payments into the personal account of any staff member.

The University reiterated that this memo serves as a final warning to both staff and students.
