UNIZIK Bans “Signing Off” Activities for Final-Year Students; The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has announced an immediate and indefinite ban on all “signing off” activities by final-year students.
This decision was communicated through an internal memorandum dated August 19, 2025, and signed by the University Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke.
Reasons for the Ban
According to the memorandum, the ban became necessary due to recurring incidents of chaos, violence, and disruption of normal university activities linked to these events.
The University expressed concerns that the involvement of unauthorized individuals during such activities posed serious risks to the safety and security of students, staff, and the wider university community.
Disciplinary Measures
The management stressed that:
- Any student found engaging in or organizing “signing off” activities will face severe disciplinary action, which could include rustication.
- Outsiders who enter the university premises to participate in such banned activities will be arrested and prosecuted for disorderly conduct, regarded as a breach of peace.
University’s Position
UNIZIK reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure academic environment and emphasized that disruptive actions will not be tolerated.
The Registrar further urged all students to:
- Focus on their academic responsibilities.
- Report any misconduct or threats to safety to the appropriate university authorities.
