UNIPORT PGD In Petroleum Technology (PGDPT) 2024/2025; The Institute of Petroleum & Energy Studies (IPES), formerly known as the Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS), offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology (PGDPT) programme aimed at candidates from oil and gas-producing communities who aspire to pursue careers in the petroleum and energy industry for sustainable development.

The programme provides a conducive learning environment with full internet access, a virtual library, and hands-on training using state-of-the-art software, industry case studies, and field visits. Students are encouraged to live and work together to develop team spirit. Upon completion of the programme, students are offered a one-year internship with TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited and can also progress to the MSc degree in Petroleum Engineering and Project Development at the Institute.

UNIPORT PGD in Petroleum Technology (PGDPT), 2024/2025

This PGDPT programme is designed to prepare you for the next steps in your career, offering learning from experts and industry leaders. The faculty includes lecturers from the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport) and other universities in Nigeria, as well as experts from the petroleum and energy industry. The programme features modern, state-of-the-art industry software, field and laboratory visits, and reviews of field case studies. The IPES hostel provides a good standard of living that encourages team spirit and collaboration among students. IPES graduates have a 95% internship and employability rate in the petroleum and energy industry upon graduation.

Programme Duration

The PGDPT is an intensive full-time programme that runs for twelve (12) calendar months. The programme is fully residential and not affected by industrial actions. Fees are non-refundable.

Award of Diploma

Successful students will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Technology (PGDPT) from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the PGDPT, candidates must have one of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an NUC-accredited or internationally recognized Engineering programme with a minimum of second-class lower division.
  • Post HND (Bachelor’s degree) from an NUC-accredited or internationally recognized Engineering programme with a minimum of second-class lower division.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an NUC-accredited or internationally recognized physical sciences programme (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geology, Geophysics, including Science Laboratory Technology (SLT)) with a minimum of second-class lower division.
  • Completion of NYSC.

Course Delivery

The course is delivered modularly, with instructors from Uniport and experts from the petroleum industry within and outside Nigeria.

Application Process

  • Application Portal: IPES Application Portal
  • Application Fee: A non-refundable fee of Fifty Thousand Naira (₦50,000) is required to be paid online to commence the application process.
  • Application Deadline: The application process ends at 11:59 pm on July 22, 2024. Candidates must upload scanned copies of their credentials on the application portal.

Important Dates

  • July 29, 2024: Aptitude Test (Onsite or virtual)
  • August 1, 2024: Oral Interview (Onsite or virtual)
  • November 11, 2024: Commencement of academic activities for the session
