This update was shared in a statement by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, on Monday, February 12, 2024.

UNIOSUN achieves expanded admission quota for MBBS

Adesoji disclosed that this development was conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor ‘Ayo Clement Adebooye, via a letter addressed to the Secretary-General of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities. Dated Monday, January 22, 2024, and signed by the Council’s Registrar, Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi.

The letter stated, “I wish to inform you of the Presidential directive through the Minister of State for Health of the approval for the increment of the quota of admission into the Medical Schools in Nigeria by 100%.” This increase stemmed from concerns about the dwindling number of Medical Doctors in the country, prompting the Federal directive.

It’s worth noting that the Council had previously augmented the admission quota for the program just a year ago, elevating it from fifty (50) to one hundred (100) following full accreditation approval.

In response to this quota enhancement, the Vice-Chancellor praised the MDCN for its transparent evaluation process during medical program accreditation. He also commended the Federal government for what he termed a well-thought-out policy to tackle the doctor shortage in the country.

Expressing gratitude, the Vice-Chancellor extended congratulations to the University’s stakeholders for this remarkable progress. He reiterated the institution’s dedication to furnishing top-tier medical education and making significant contributions to the advancement of the nation’s healthcare sector.
