UNILORIN postgraduate admission form 2026/2027; The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has announced the commencement of applications for its postgraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The admission exercise covers PhD, MPhil/PhD, MPhil, Master’s, and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes. Prospective applicants are strongly advised to read the full admission advert carefully before applying, as incorrect entries may affect the entire application process.
UNILORIN Postgraduate Admission 2026/2027
Important Application Notice
Applicants are advised to:
- Select only courses listed for the 2026/2027 session
- Print and study the admission advert before starting the application
- Ensure all entries are accurate
The university will not be responsible for errors made during the application process.
The postgraduate session runs for 12 calendar months, from 2 October to 30 September of the following year, beginning from the date of first registration.
List of Postgraduate Programmes
PhD Degree Programmes
PhD programmes are available to candidates with:
- M.A, M.Ed, M.Eng, M.Sc, LL.M, or M.P.H
- Minimum of 60 percent or a CGPA of 4.0 on a 5-point scale
Duration:
- Full-time: 36 to 60 months
- Part-time: 48 to 72 months
A thesis is required at the end of the programme.
MPhil/PhD Programmes
Candidates with:
- 55.00 to 59.99 percent or CGPA of 3.50 to 3.99
Duration:
- 12 to 24 months (full-time only)
Candidates may convert to a PhD programme after assessment if they achieve at least 60 percent at the end of the first session.
MPhil Programmes
Candidates with:
- 50.00 to 54.99 percent or CGPA of 3.00 to 3.49
Duration:
- 18 to 24 months (full-time)
A dissertation is required.
Master’s Degree Programmes
Available programmes include:
- M.A
- M.Ed
- M.Eng
- M.Sc
- LL.M
- M.P.H
Duration:
- Full-time: 18 to 24 months
- Part-time: 36 to 48 months
All Master’s programmes involve coursework and research, with a compulsory dissertation.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programmes
PGD programmes are available to candidates with Third Class honours degrees.
General Admission Requirements
Applicants must:
- Have all entry certificates ready before application
- Possess a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate dated on or before 30 September 2026
- Complete the application online and upload scanned credentials
Applicants must also have five O’Level credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings.
Candidates who obtained O’Level results before 2015 may have a pass in English or Mathematics depending on the programme.

After completing the online application, candidates must submit:
- Hard copy of the application form
- Supporting documents

Academic transcripts must be sent directly to the Head of Department of the chosen programme. The university will not be responsible for misdirected transcripts.
Additional Requirements
- PhD applicants must attend departmental interviews and assessments
- Applicants from non-English speaking countries must provide TOEFL or IELTS results
- All applicants must submit a research proposal (maximum of 5 pages) to pgschool@unilorin.edu.ng on or before Friday, 8 May 2026
- Full-time applicants must provide a letter of release from their employers
- Applicants for PGD and Master’s programmes must sit for a qualifying examination
Exemptions:
- Candidates with First Class or Second Class Upper degrees from UNILORIN applying within the same discipline
- International applicants are exempt from the qualifying examination
