UNIABUJA Governing Council Appoints Sambo Mohammed as Acting Registrar; The 11th Governing Council of the University of Abuja, led by Distinguished Senator Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, has approved the appointment of Malam Sambo Mohammed as the Acting Registrar of the institution.

The appointment was made during the 80th Extraordinary Meeting of Council held on Friday, November 7, 2025, and takes effect from Tuesday, November 11, 2025, for a period of three months.

Sambo succeeds Mrs. Roseline Adakayi, who had earlier been appointed in May 2025 for a six-month term.

Until his appointment, Sambo served in various strategic positions within the University, most recently as Deputy Registrar, Council Division. In line with the University’s governance structure, he will be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor and serve as Secretary to the Governing Council.

Congratulating him, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mathew Adamu, described the appointment as a welcome development that would strengthen administrative efficiency. He urged Sambo to uphold professionalism, integrity, and teamwork “as we continue to work together to lift the University higher.”

Professor Adamu also commended Mrs. Roseline Adakayi for her commitment and service as Acting Registrar, noting that her contributions helped to stabilise the University’s administrative processes.

Profile of Malam Sambo Mohammed

Malam Mohammed Sambo holds a B.A. (Hons) in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1985–1988) and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Abuja (2010–2016).

After completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Delta Steel Company Limited, Aladja, Warri, in 1989, he joined the Peoples Bank of Nigeria, Ikara Branch, Kaduna State, as Programme Officer (1989–1993). He later worked with Nigeria Universal Bank Limited, Zaria Branch, as Officer-in-Charge, Entries Department (1994–1998).

From 1998 to 2007, Sambo served at the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, where he rose to the position of Principal Assistant Registrar before transferring to the University of Abuja in April 2007.

He has also served on secondment as Deputy Director (Administration) at the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (2012–2014) and as General Manager (Human Resources Management) at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) from September 2017 to February 2022.

An accomplished university administrator, Sambo is a member of the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA) and the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

He has attended numerous workshops and conferences locally and internationally, focusing on management, leadership, human resource development, digital literacy, and university administration.
