About the TORCH Global South Visiting Professorships:

The TORCH Global South Visiting Professorships were established in 2015 to support visiting scholars from the Global South. The program is instrumental in promoting diversity and inclusivity in Oxford by bringing leading academics from these regions to the university.

Visiting Professors are hosted by All Souls College and provided with additional support from TORCH. They are expected to engage in research, contribute to the teaching environment through public events, and participate in the academic life of the College and University.

Eligibility:

  • Proposed Visiting Professors must hold university or related academic posts in their home country and be active in Humanities research areas.
  • Visiting Professorships are not typically offered to candidates who received their doctorates within the last seven years.
  • Not eligible for individuals holding posts in Oxford or those already residing in or near Oxford.

How to Apply for the TORCH Global South Visiting Professorships:

  • Applications must be submitted via the IRAMS system using the ‘Case for Support’ form.
  • The application must be put forward by an Oxford Humanities academic, outlining the reasons for selecting the researcher, how their research would contribute to the Oxford academic community, and how the Visiting Professor would benefit from and contribute to Oxford.
  • The application should include the proposed Professor’s CV and a research statement (‘Case for Support’ form – no more than 1000 words) detailing their plans during the Visiting Professorship.
