NUC Assesses Two New Academic Programmes at Lagos State University

NUC Assesses Two New Academic Programmes at Lagos State University; The National Universities Commission (NUC) conducted a resource assessment of two newly introduced academic programmes at Lagos State University (LASU) on Tuesday, 13 October 2026.

The programmes assessed were B.Sc. Statistics in the Faculty of Science and B.Sc. Ed. Human Kinetics (Sports Management) in the Faculty of Education.

The exercise was aimed at reviewing the resources available for the delivery of the programmes and identifying areas that may require improvement.

NUC Resource Assessment at LASU Main Campus

The assessment exercise commenced with an entry meeting at the Senate Chamber of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building on the university’s Ojo campus.

The LASU delegation was led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi.

Other principal officers who participated in the exercise included:

  • Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).
  • Mr Emmanuel Fanu, Registrar.
  • Mr Olabisi Yusuf, Bursar.
  • Dr Omawunmi Makinde, University Librarian.

The university’s principal officers participated in the exercise as part of LASU’s engagement with the NUC assessment teams.

LASU Reaffirms Commitment to Academic Quality

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo, Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi described resource assessment and accreditation exercises as important processes for reviewing academic programme quality and identifying areas for improvement.

He assured the visiting NUC teams of the university’s cooperation throughout the assessment exercise.

The assessment teams were led by Professor Pauline Ekuri and Professor Mohammed Bello. Their work focused on reviewing the two newly introduced programmes at LASU.

NUC Assessment Teams Present Findings

At the exit meeting, the assessment teams presented their findings and observations to the university’s representatives.

The feedback included areas requiring attention, where applicable, to support the delivery and development of the programmes.

The exit meeting provided an opportunity for the assessment teams to communicate their observations following the resource assessment exercise.

Important Note on LASU’s New Programmes

The NUC exercise was a resource assessment, not a final approval or accreditation decision for either programme.

The assessment therefore should not be interpreted as confirmation that B.Sc. Statistics or B.Sc. Ed. Human Kinetics (Sports Management) has received final approval or accreditation from the commission.

The exercise forms part of the process of reviewing the resources and academic arrangements associated with the introduction of the two programmes at Lagos State University.
