Due to the impending start of registration for the 2023 UTME, we believe it is essential to give all students and potential UTME candidates the information they need to register and acquire their NIN. Candidates for the 2023 UTME are similarly encouraged to begin studying for their tests.

What is NIN?

National Identification Number is referred to as NIN. It is made up of 11 random, unintelligible numbers that are given to a person once their enrollment in the National Identity Database is complete (NIDB).

A NIN is unique in that once it has been assigned to a person, it cannot be changed, given to, or used by anyone else. When a person passes away, the Commission receives a death certificate proving the person’s passing, at which point the person’s NIN is retired.

The NIN is used to establish or authenticate an individual’s identification and to link all records about that person in the database. All Nigerian nationals and residents who are 18 years of age or older are eligible to join the NIN program.

First, Check if you already have a NIN

The first step before you proceed to register to get your NIN is to check if you already have one. To know this, with the phone used to register for the NIN, Dial *346# on your phone to retrieve your NIN. Once your NIN is displayed, you can either screenshot it, or note it down somewhere. Please note that you’re not to share your NIN information on any social media platform. You can, however, share it when requested by trusted institutions. Getting your NIN by dialing *346# is totally FREE OF CHARGE on all Nigerian Mobile Networks including MTN, AIRTEL, GLO, and 9mobile.
