Niger State Government Takes Steps to Clear N500 Million NECO Debt; Minna – The Niger State government has made significant progress in settling its outstanding debt to the National Examination Council (NECO), paying a total of N120 million out of the N500 million owed.

This debt pertains to examination fees incurred for candidates sitting for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
According to Binta Mamman, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, the state government’s commitment to resolving this financial obligation was exemplified by Governor Umaru Bago’s approval of a standing order. This order mandates a monthly payment of N30 million to NECO, with the aim of liquidating the debt accumulated from the previous administration.
Commissioner Mamman revealed that this initiative has yielded positive results, with the government disbursing N120 million towards NECO fees since May 29, coinciding with the inception of the current administration.
This substantial payment reflects the government’s dedication to its responsibilities in the education sector.
