NECO 2025 SSCE External (GCE) Result Is Out. The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 SSCE External (GCE) results. According to official figures, 71.63% of candidates earned five credits including English Language and Mathematics.

NECO Releases 2025 SSCE External Results
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, recording an overall pass rate of 71.63 per cent.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Ibrahim-Wushishi, during a press briefing at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
When the Exam Was Written and When Results Were Released
Professor Ibrahim-Wushishi explained that the 2025 SSCE External examination was conducted between 26 November and 13 December 2025.
The marking exercise followed shortly after, running from 5 January to 21 January 2026. According to NECO, the results were released 52 days after the final written paper, in line with the Council’s result processing timeline.
Number of Candidates Who Registered and Sat for the Exam
NECO recorded a total of 96,979 candidates who registered for the 2025 SSCE External examination.
Registration breakdown:
- Male candidates: 51,823 (53.43%)
- Female candidates: 45,156 (46.56%)
Out of those who registered, 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the examination.
Candidates who sat:
- Males: 50,785 (53.36%)
- Females: 44,375 (46.63%)
English Language and Mathematics Performance
For English Language, NECO reported that 93,425 candidates sat for the paper. Out of this number, 73,167 candidates, representing 78.32 per cent, earned credit and above.
In Mathematics, 93,330 candidates wrote the examination, and 85,256 candidates, equivalent to 91.35 per cent, obtained credit passes and above.
Five-Credit Results Breakdown
NECO highlighted two key outcomes from the 2025 SSCE External results:
- 68,166 candidates (71.63%) obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics
- 82,082 candidates (86.26%) obtained five credits and above, regardless of English and Mathematics
Purpose of the SSCE External Examination
According to Professor Ibrahim-Wushishi, the SSCE External (GCE) examination provides candidates with another opportunity to qualify for admission into universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions, both within and outside Nigeria.
He added that the examination covered 16 subjects and described the successful release of results as a significant milestone in NECO’s ongoing efforts to ensure credible, reliable, and standardised assessments.
Examination Malpractice: Figures and Sanctions
On examination malpractice, NECO disclosed that 9,016 candidates were booked for various offences during the 2025 SSCE External examination.
This figure represents a 31.7 per cent increase compared to the 6,160 candidates booked for malpractice during the 2024 examination.
NECO also announced disciplinary actions taken:
- Five supervisors were recommended for blacklisting for aiding and abetting examination malpractice:
- Two from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
- One each from Kano, Adamawa, and Ondo States
- Four examination centres were recommended for derecognition due to whole-centre malpractice:
- Two centres in Niger State
- One centre each in Yobe and Kano States
