NECO 2025 GCE Registration Begins; The National Examination Council (NECO) has officially commenced registration for the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, popularly known as NECO GCE. This year’s edition comes with significant updates, including the adoption of Computer-Based Examinations (CBE) in sixteen (16) selected subjects.
Below is a comprehensive guide for prospective candidates who wish to participate in the 2025 NECO GCE:
NECO GCE 2025 Registration Details
Registration Format:
Candidates can register online or offline. Visit the official NECO registration portal at www.neco.gov.ng, navigate to the SSCE External link, and follow the instructions to create an account, purchase a registration quota, and complete biometric capture at a reputable cybercafé.
Important Requirements:
- A recent passport-sized photograph (not older than 6 months) with a white background. A system camera can be used during registration.
- Valid National Identification Number (NIN) is mandatory for registration.
- Biometric fingerprints will be captured during offline registration and verified during the exam. Mismatched fingerprints will lead to disqualification and sanction for impersonation.

- Start Date: July 7, 2025
- Deadline: November 18, 2025 (12:00 midnight)
- Late Registration: November 19 – 25, 2025 (Extra ₦5,000)
- Walk-in Registration: ₦43,000 (minimum of 3 hours before scheduled exam)

The NECO GCE 2025 will hold from Wednesday, November 26 to Saturday, December 13, 2025.

Mock Examination
NECO may organize a Mock Examination for interested candidates. Details will be communicated before the main exam.
Photo Card and Timetable
After completing the registration, candidates must collect from the registration center:
- A copy of the official timetable
- At least one clear copy of their NECO Photocard, which grants access to the examination centre
Referee’s Attestation on the Photocard must be signed and stamped by one of the following:
- Principal of a recognized secondary school
- Ordained Clergy or Chief Imam
- Commissioned Officer (not below Captain or equivalent)
- Senior Civil Servant (not below GL. 14)
- Legal Practitioner with at least 10 years’ experience
Note: Candidates are no longer required to submit their Attestation/Photocards at NECO State Offices for stamping.
Computer-Based Exam Centres
Candidates must select a neighbourhood within their preferred state. They will be assigned to an available CBT centre within that location after uploading their data.
Special Needs Candidates
Candidates with special needs should register as usual but must indicate their specific conditions correctly when filling in their bio-data online.
Important General Information
- Fees are non-refundable.
- The exam is 100% computer-based.
- Walk-in candidates can register at least three hours before any paper.
- Exam centre cannot be changed after upload.
- Only one-time correction allowed after upload (limited to one name or passport change).
- Multiple registrations are prohibited – all results will be cancelled if detected.
- Candidates must be seated 30 minutes before each paper.
- Dress code: Mufti only; arms or military gear are not allowed.
- Electronic devices such as mobile phones, programmable calculators, smartwatches, or tablets are strictly prohibited.
- Candidates must review NECO syllabus and rules prior to the examination.
- The uploaded photograph and NIN will be printed on the certificate.
- NECO will inform candidates about centre viability at least one day before their exam date.

Candidates are strongly advised to register through reputable cybercafés and to double-check all information before final submission. Any mistake made during registration may affect your ability to sit for or gain valid certification from the exam.
