FIDA commends the prompt response of the Ogun State Government, which has taken measures to address these incidents by pledging to investigate the alleged rape cases and ensure that the perpetrators face justice. FIDA applauds this initiative and encourages other state governments to follow suit.
The rape of women and girls represents a grave violation of their human rights and a direct assault on their dignity. This crime must not be condoned or tolerated in any form. As an organization dedicated to safeguarding and advancing women’s rights, FIDA calls upon governments to take concrete actions to protect women and girls from all forms of gender-based violence, including rape.
Mrs. Olusesi affirmed that FIDA will continue to support rape victims and advocate for their rights. The organization extends its call to all stakeholders, including civil society organizations, religious leaders, and traditional authorities, to unite in the battle against rape and other manifestations of gender-based violence. Together, a safe and equitable society can be created for all.”
It was reported that several individuals, believed to be hoodlums, sexually assaulted at least four female students of the university earlier this week. These perpetrators allegedly targeted the students’ hostels situated in Abapawa, an area adjacent to the university campus.
