JAMB Policy Meeting on Admissions Scheduled for July 18th 2024: JAMB has scheduled Thursday, 18th July 2024, for the Policy Meeting on Admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. This meeting, chaired by the Hon. Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, will be attended by critical stakeholders in the education sector, including:

  • Heads of regulatory agencies such as the National University Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE)
  • Heads of tertiary institutions in the country
  • Representatives from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), among others

Purpose of the Meeting:

  • Set Admission Guidelines: The policy meeting sets the tone for the year’s admission exercise, formulates admission guidelines, and sets acceptable minimum admission standards for all tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
  • Application Statistics and Performance Evaluation: The meeting presents application statistics and evaluates candidates’ performance.
  • Registrar’s Report: The Registrar will present reports on the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and ongoing Direct Entry (DE) applications, analyzing key performance indicators that could shape government policy directions in admissions.
  • Review of Previous Admissions: Stakeholders will discuss unresolved issues from the previous year’s admission exercise and appraise compliance with existing advisories, suggesting necessary amendments.
  • Determine Minimum Admissible Score: Based on the performance of candidates in the current year’s UTME, the meeting will determine the year’s minimum admissible score.
  • Kick-Start Current Year Admissions: The meeting will determine the year’s admission requirements and officially start the admission process for the current year.
