JAMB 2024 Age Policy Update

JAMB 2024 Age Policy Update. The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has updated the minimum age requirement for admission into tertiary institutions for the 2024/2025 academic session.

New Age Admission Rule:

  • Initially, only candidates aged 16 and above by 31st December 2024 were eligible for admission.
  • New Update: Candidates who are 15 years old but will turn 16 by 31st August 2025 are now eligible for admission.

Flexibility for Institutions:

  • Institutions now have the flexibility to admit candidates who were previously ineligible due to age.
  • This change aims to ensure fairness for students whose admission period extends through August 2025.

Institutional Discretion:

  • Institutions can still choose to maintain the original age limit of 16 years by December 2024 if they prefer.

Action Required from Institutions:

  • Institutions must review their CAPS (Central Admission Processing System) and submit a list of candidates who will turn 16 between January and August 2025.
  • This list should be submitted within one week of receiving JAMB’s letter.

This update from JAMB ensures that no eligible student is unfairly excluded based on age, provided they meet the academic standards.
