Fellowship Overview

The ICL Global Development Fellowship provides comprehensive financial support to beneficiaries, including:

A monthly stipend of £1,900
A one-off £200 arrival payment in the UK
Return economy class airfare
Coverage of standard visa application fees
Biometrics Residence Permit (BRP) payment
Funding for travel to visa application centres

Placements last 2 to 4 months, must begin in March 2026, and must be completed before 31 July 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be a current doctoral student.
Hold a passport and be a permanent resident of a Least Developed Country (LDC) or Lower Middle Income Country (LMIC) according to the OECD ODA Recipients List. Upper Middle Income Countries are not eligible.
Be studying for their PhD at an institution located in an LDC or LMIC.
Have completed more than 12 months of PhD study by the time the placement begins.
Obtain a Letter of Support from an academic host supervisor at Imperial College London, signed by the Head of Department.
Provide a Letter of Recommendation from their current PhD supervisor.
Ensure the supervisor’s recommendation letter confirms the applicant has a sufficient level of English proficiency to effectively participate in the placement.
