FUTO University Librarian Recruitment 2026. The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Imo State, has announced a vacancy for the position of University Librarian. The University Librarian is a principal officer responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the administration of the University Library, including the development of library resources and coordination of services that support teaching, learning and research.

FUTO University Librarian Job Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the following academic and professional requirements:
- Possess a good Honours degree, a Master’s degree and a PhD in Library and Information Science from a recognised university.
- Have valid membership of the Library Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) and other relevant professional associations.
- Have at least 15 years of post-graduation professional experience in a university or another recognised organisation.
- Have at least five years of experience as a Deputy University Librarian or in an equivalent position within the university system.

Beyond the academic qualifications and professional experience, candidates should demonstrate the following competencies:
- Verifiable knowledge of computer software used in modern library operations, particularly electronic library (e-library) platforms.
- Strong administrative, managerial and leadership skills.
- Ability to mobilise resources and manage budgets effectively.
- High integrity and commitment to professional excellence.
- Ability to motivate staff and lead teams.
- An innovative and focused approach to work.
- Good physical and mental health.
- Must not be older than 60 years at the time of application.
Appointment, Tenure and Salary
The successful candidate will serve as the University Librarian for an initial period of five years, beginning from the date of assumption of duty.
The appointment may be extended for an additional year, subject to satisfactory performance.
Salary and other conditions of service will be consistent with those applicable to similar principal officer positions in federal universities in Nigeria, as determined by the Federal Government.
