FUTMINNA postgraduate admission 2025/2026; The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has announced the commencement of applications for its 2025/2026 postgraduate programmes.

The admission covers PhD, MPhil/PhD, Master’s, and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programmes across several Schools and Centres. The application process is fully online, and candidates are advised to follow each step carefully to avoid errors.


FUTMINNA Postgraduate Admission 2025/2026

General Admission Requirements

PhD Programmes

Candidates must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree from FUTMINNA or any recognised university
  • Have a minimum weighted average of 60 percent or a CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale
  • Note that departments may prescribe additional courses where a candidate’s background is considered weak

Master’s Degree Programmes

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree from a recognised university
  • Third Class Honours degree with at least two years post-graduation experience
  • HND with Lower Credit plus a Postgraduate Diploma with Lower Credit and at least one year of experience

Some candidates may be required to pass a qualifying examination. Where applicable, an additional fee of N2,000 will be charged.


MPhil/PhD Programmes

Candidates must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in the relevant field or a related area
  • Have a minimum CGPA of 2.50

Applicants who do not meet the 3.50 CGPA requirement for PhD may be considered for MPhil/PhD if they meet the 2.50 CGPA requirement.

Additional conditions:

  • Candidates with professional Master’s degrees are not eligible
  • Applicants from non-English speaking countries must provide proof of English proficiency
  • Three referee reports are required

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programmes

Candidates may apply with:

  • Third Class Honours degree
  • HND with Lower Credit
  • OND Lower Credit with at least one year of work experience

Important Admission Notes

  • Candidates must present NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate
  • Applicants with a PASS grade at any level are not eligible
  • Diploma holders must have at least a CGPA of 2.50 for Master’s admission
  • Final admission decisions rest with the Postgraduate School Board
  • All Master’s programmes include coursework and research, with a required thesis defence

Duration of Programmes

PhD

  • Full-time: Minimum 6 semesters, maximum 10 semesters
  • Part-time: Minimum 10 semesters, maximum 14 semesters

MPhil/PhD

  • Minimum 2 semesters, maximum 4 semesters (full-time only)

Master’s Degree

  • Minimum 3 semesters, maximum 6 semesters
  • No part-time option
  • Minimum CGPA of 2.50 must be maintained

Postgraduate Diploma

  • Minimum 3 semesters
  • Maximum 6 semesters
  • Minimum CGPA of 1.50 required

How to Apply for FUTMINNA Postgraduate Admission

All applications must be completed online through the university’s postgraduate application portal.

Applicants should:

  • Create an account using a valid email address and phone number
  • Complete the application form with accurate information
  • Submit the form online before the deadline
  • Print the completed application form for reference

Application Timeline:

  • Opens: Monday, 27 February 2026
  • Closes: Friday, 20 April 2026

Application Fee

  • The application fee is N20,000, excluding service charges
  • Payment is made online via the Remita platform using MasterCard or Verve

All MTech, MEng, MPhil/PhD, and PhD applicants must send official transcripts to:

Additional requirements:

  • PhD candidates must upload their research proposals during application

Acceptance and Registration

Successful candidates are required to pay a non-refundable acceptance fee of N25,000.

After payment, candidates must:

  • Present original credentials for screening
  • Pay school fees
  • Complete registration at their respective departments or centres

Failure to complete these steps within the stipulated time will result in the loss of admission.
