FUOTUOKE announces vacancy for the post of Vice Chancellor; The position of Vice-Chancellor at the Federal University Otuoke (FUOTUOKE), Bayelsa State, Nigeria, will soon become vacant.
In line with the provisions of the Federal University Otuoke (Establishment) Act 2015 and the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Acts of 1993, 2003, and 2012, the Governing Council of the University hereby invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position.


The Job

The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University, Chairman of Senate, and a member of the Governing Council.
The Vice-Chancellor shall:

  • Advise Council on policy, finance, and administrative matters.
  • Maintain efficiency and good order within the University.
  • Ensure enforcement of Statutes, Ordinances, and Regulations.
  • Oversee staff and student discipline.
  • Regulate student admissions in line with Senate guidelines.

The Candidate

Applicants must:

  • Hold a good university degree, including a Ph.D., and possess strong leadership qualities.
  • Be a Professor with at least six (6) years of experience at that rank.
  • Be a person of proven integrity, academic excellence, and administrative competence.
  • Be ICT-proficient and committed to integrating technology into university administration.
  • Have the ability to strengthen internal and external relationships.
  • Be in sound physical and mental health.
  • Not be more than 65 years old at the time of assumption of duty.

Tenure and Conditions of Service

  • The appointment is for a single term of five (5) years, non-renewable.
  • Remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities in Nigeria, subject to government and Council directives.

Method of Application

Applicants should submit 25 copies of their application, each accompanied by:

  • A signed and dated Curriculum Vitae, including full name, contact details, educational qualifications, work experience, academic achievements, publications, and community service (not exceeding 400 words).
  • Copies of relevant certificates (degrees, NYSC, etc.).
  • Names and addresses of three referees, who must each send a confidential report directly to the Registrar in a sealed envelope marked “Post of Vice-Chancellor: Referee’s Report”.
  • A vision statement (maximum 500 words) outlining the candidate’s vision for the University in the 21st century.

Candidates identified through the University’s search process must also submit a letter of consent and comply with the same requirements.
