You Can Now Connect Spotify to ChatGPT — Here’s Everything You Need to Know

Earlier this week, OpenAI rolled out a new feature that allows developers to build apps within ChatGPT, giving users the ability to prompt the assistant to perform tasks and answer questions directly related to participating apps.

Among the first companies to launch interactive experiences is Spotify, which now lets listeners ask ChatGPT to create playlists, recommend songs, suggest artists, and more.

When you mention Spotify in your ChatGPT prompt, you’ll see an option to connect your account. A button labeled “Use Spotify for this answer” will appear at the bottom of the chat. Connecting your Spotify account allows ChatGPT to access your listening data — such as your liked songs and history — providing valuable context that helps generate more personalized and relevant recommendations.

Once your accounts are linked, you can ask ChatGPT to suggest tracks, artists, playlists, or podcast episodes based on your preferences. You can also make your requests highly specific. For example, you might ask it to create a mood-based playlist, one tailored to a specific event, or one that includes only your most-played artists or favorite genres. You can even set the preferred length — a handy feature for long drives or workout sessions.

During testing, we asked ChatGPT to make a dog-walking playlist where every song had “Dog” in the title — and it delivered.

When you tap any suggested track or podcast episode, the Spotify app will open directly, allowing you to start listening or watching right away.

ChatGPT’s integration goes beyond simple recommendations. The AI assistant can now perform actions within Spotify on your behalf, including controlling playback, adding or removing items from your library, creating or editing private playlists, and managing who you follow.

However, when connecting your Spotify account, it’s important to review and agree to the app’s privacy policy. This policy outlines details about data sharing and security — including the potential risk that, if ChatGPT experiences a security breach, some of your listening data could be accessed by unauthorized parties.

In addition to sharing your listening activity (like songs played, saved content, and followed artists), ChatGPT also receives your IP address and approximate location to help personalize your experience.

The good news: you can disconnect your Spotify account at any time, and Spotify has clarified in a blog post that it does not share any artist or creator content (like songs, podcasts, or videos) with OpenAI for training purposes. All content on the platform remains protected.

The feature is currently available in English across 145 countries for all ChatGPT users — Free, Plus, and Pro — on both web and mobile. Both free and premium Spotify users can access the integration, though premium members will experience a more personalized setup.

Spotify joins a growing list of companies integrating their apps into ChatGPT, including Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, and Zillow. These integrations allow users to do everything from booking a hotel, to designing content, to finding apartments — all within the ChatGPT interface.

With this new wave of integrations, ChatGPT continues to evolve into more than a conversational AI — it’s quickly becoming a universal platform for productivity, entertainment, and discovery, all powered by your favorite apps.
