Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has countered the nickname “T-Pain” used by some on social media to refer to President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the President empathizes with Nigerians’ struggles and is focused on economic recovery.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Onanuga said that while President Tinubu is aware of citizens’ hardships, he doesn’t follow social media discourse and is instead committed to delivering economic improvements. “Some people out of mischief just say somebody is T-Pain; He [Tinubu] is not T-Pain,” Onanuga clarified, emphasizing Tinubu’s focus on “repairing the economy” rather than causing hardship.

Acknowledging the tough economic conditions marked by inflation and increased energy costs, Onanuga noted that despite these challenges, economic growth and revenue have increased. However, many Nigerians continue to grapple with high costs, largely attributed to the removal of fuel subsidies and unification of forex rates.

In response to these pressures, citizens have organized two significant protests, urging the administration to reconsider its economic policies. Nonetheless, the Tinubu administration has remained resolute, defending these reforms as necessary for long-term prosperity and stability in Nigeria.
