Vatican City – The Vatican has declared that the conclave to elect the next pope will commence on May 7, 2025. On that date, up to 135 cardinals will enter the Sistine Chapel, where they will remain in complete isolation until a new pope is chosen.

The Vatican emphasized the strict seclusion of the conclave, stating, “Cardinals are prohibited from sending or receiving any messages, accessing newspapers or magazines, or engaging with radio or television broadcasts.” This ensures no external influence during the sacred process of selecting the next leader of the Catholic Church.

The conclave will continue until a two-thirds majority agrees on a candidate, with the election signaled by white smoke rising from the Sistine Chapel’s chimney. Until then, the cardinals will have no contact with the outside world, a tradition underscoring the gravity and sanctity of their task.

The announcement has sparked global anticipation, as the world awaits the outcome of this historic event.
