Twitter is testing an edit button so you can post without feeling bad about it.
Twitter announced on Thursday that it will begin testing a “Edit Tweet” button internally with its team and then roll it out to Twitter Blue, its paid premium service, for subscribers in the coming weeks. According to the blog post, the test will allow people to change their tweet “a few times” for 30 minutes after it has been published.
“Edited Tweets will appear with an icon, timestamp, and label to make it clear to readers that the original Tweet has been modified,” according to the company. Viewers will also be able to see previous versions of the tweet by tapping the “edited tweet” label.
Many impulsive Twitter users have been eliminated due to hastily written or typographically flawed tweets. According to Twitter, an edit button is the most often asked-for feature. However, changing a tweet defeats the purpose of sending a succinct, snappy message.
With the creation of the Twitter thread feature and an increase in character limit from 140 to 280, Twitter has already departed from its initial vision.
Additionally, it’s a part of Twitter’s broader initiative to counteract widespread false information and contextualize discussions that may otherwise be deceptive.
According to Twitter, the aim of the new editing option is to give users a “more approachable and less stressful” experience while tweeting. And that “the integrity of the conversation” and the creation of a publicly available record of what was said will be ensured by the time restriction and openness of the edit history. That edit history is very similar to what Apple did with the iMessage editing feature in iOS 16.
Twitter users are already buzzing about the news, as was to be expected.
It remains to be seen if editing tweets will be the blessing we’ve all hoped for or just a way to create more chaos.

I find it a bit disturbing that twitter wants to add an edit button, but it was bound to happen. Tweeps, what do you think?
