Former President Donald Trump has never been one for conventional celebrations—and his latest idea for America’s 250th birthday is no exception.
During a speech Thursday in Iowa to launch a yearlong celebration leading up to the United States’ 250th Independence Day in 2026, Trump suggested hosting a full-scale UFC fight on the White House lawn, with up to 25,000 spectators in attendance.
“We have a lot of land there,” Trump said, referencing the spacious South Lawn of the White House. “I even think we’re going to have a UFC fight… Think of this—on the grounds of the White House.”
The proposal, delivered with Trump’s characteristic flair, comes as part of broader plans he announced to commemorate America’s semiquincentennial.
The celebration, he said, will include special events across all national parks, historic battlefields, and landmarks, along with a major festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and a nationwide athletic competition featuring high school athletes from all 50 states.
While the idea of a mixed martial arts showdown in the backyard of the nation’s most iconic residence might seem far-fetched, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt later confirmed that the former president was “dead serious” about the plan.
Trump’s UFC Ties Run Deep
Trump’s connection to the UFC is well known. He’s a longtime friend of UFC President Dana White and has become a regular fixture at high-profile events. Since launching his 2024 re-election bid, Trump has made multiple cageside appearances, including one just weeks ago at a championship doubleheader.
His presence has drawn roaring ovations from fans, and his relationship with White—who has publicly endorsed him—has only strengthened his bond with the UFC fanbase.
While the White House has yet to release any official planning documents for the proposed fight, Trump’s comments hint at a vision that blends showmanship with patriotic spectacle—a signature approach that defined many of his presidential events.
Is It Even Logistically Possible?
While it’s unclear what security, zoning, or logistical challenges such an event would face, Trump’s vision has certainly made headlines—and sparked plenty of debate online.With the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence just over a year away, one thing is certain: if Trump is involved in the planning, the celebration may be unlike anything in American history.
