TikTok Developing U.S.-Specific App Ahead of Anticipated Sale
TikTok is reportedly working on a new version of its app specifically for U.S. users, in preparation for a potential sale to a group of investors, according to The Information.
The updated app is expected to launch on September 5, with the current version set to stop functioning by March of next year. However, the timeline remains subject to change, the report notes.
U.S.-based users would need to download the new version in order to continue using the platform.
The news comes just two days after former President Donald Trump announced plans to begin discussions with China regarding the app’s future, claiming that the U.S. government “pretty much” has a deal in place for the sale of the popular short-video platform.
Trump had previously extended the deadline for a potential TikTok ban to September 17, marking the third such delay.
