Things you will find in schools abroad (using my school as an indicator) that you may not necessarily find in Nigeria.
I must start by saying this post is not intended to bash Nigeria but is for information and this is basically posting what I’ve noticed throughout my stay here. I will try to start with the mundane and move up from there in no particular order.
Tampons and pads in restrooms. In my school I’ve noticed free tampons and sanitary pads in almost every toilet.
Recording devices in classrooms : Most classrooms have recording devices and lots of classes (there are exceptions) are recorded and uploaded so that you can always refer back.
Charging Spots in almost every spot : classes, libraries, canteens etc all have areas where you can charge your devices for free.
Free wifi services: Free WiFi services exist in school. Once you’re in school, just connect to the WiFi and save yourself stress.
Free books, plants etc : sometimes the school gives away free books, plants, tote bags etc to students.
Career services: Schools have career services for students who need advise on where to access opportunities and how to work on your resume etc
They also send work and internship opportunities via email to students.
Mental health services : if you’re overwhelmed or depressed, you have access to mental health services. They take it pretty seriously here.
Dissertation research library services ;If you’ve hit a lag with your dissertation or any research you can reach out to the library personnel for help.
Extenuating circumstances access: if you fall sick or have a mental breakdown or any other personal or medical issue that may cause you to submit assignments, tests or exams late, you can write to the school and get extra time.
Access to professors and supervisors: You always have access to your professors or supervisors (via email or within their office hours) whenever you need help or clarification.
Free food and coffee in student accommodation: you have access to free coffee, tea, cinema tickets, soup bowls etc sometimes when you live in a student accommodation.
I cannot remember everything but if I remember more, I will post a part 2. This is why people say a masters abroad is easy, because you have so many resources available to you. The work itself though is hard work, requires critical thinking and a lot of analysis to pass well here. They also take plagiarism very seriously.
