To help you on your way, Student Village has compiled a list of the five “most employable degrees” – those subjects renowned for securing a job after graduation, unlocking brilliant career prospects, and offering impressive earnings potential.
1. Medicine
Medicine remains one of the most employable degrees in Nigeria. With a structured pathway, it can lead to careers as a general practitioner, surgeon, cardiologist, neurologist, or medical consultant. The consistent demand for qualified healthcare professionals across public and private hospitals makes it a stable and respected career choice.Getting into a medicine programme in Nigeria typically requires strong results in science subjects—especially Biology, Chemistry, and Physics—at the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) level, along with a high score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Post-UTME screening.
Medical degrees in Nigeria usually take six years to complete, followed by a compulsory one-year internship and another year of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Additional years of specialist training are required if you choose to pursue a field such as surgery, cardiology, or general practice.
2.Computer Science
Computer Science is increasingly popular in Nigeria due to its wide range of career opportunities in tech, finance, healthcare, and other sectors. With the growing importance of areas like artificial intelligence, data analysis, and automation, demand for skilled professionals continues to rise.To study computer science at a Nigerian university, students typically need strong SSCE results, particularly in Mathematics, Physics, and sometimes Further Maths or Computer Studies, along with a good UTME score. 4. Engineering

While specific subjects are not always mandatory, proficiency in Arts or Social Science subjects can be helpful.
The degree typically takes five years to complete in Nigerian universities, followed by one year at the Nigerian Law School before you can be called to the Bar. Law students study core areas such as constitutional law, criminal law, contract law, and property law, and may later explore specialisations like commercial law or human rights.
Graduates can pursue careers as lawyers, solicitors, or legal advisers, but the degree is also valuable in fields like compliance, corporate governance, policy development, mediation, and law enforcement.
