The appeals court orders ASUU to end its strike right away: Following ASUU’s compliance with the lower court’s decision, the court gave them seven days to file their appeal.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) must immediately end its current strike in order for the Court of Appeal to grant the union’s request to review an identical decision made by the National Industrial Court.
However, the court granted ASUU’s request under the condition that the union abides by the lower court’s decision and ends the strike right away while the merits of the substantive lawsuit are being resolved.
Following ASUU’s compliance with the lower court’s decision, the court gave them seven days to file their appeal.
On September 21, the National Industrial Court issued an order requiring ASUU to end the strike.
The federal government’s motion on notice asking for the lecturers to return to the classrooms was granted by the court.
The trial judge, Justice Polycarp Hamman, decided on the interlocutory injunction and prohibited ASUU from carrying out the industrial action until the outcome of the lawsuit brought by the federal government against ASUU.
Angered by the decision, the union went to the appellant court to challenge it.
