Armed Robbers Behind the Death of Arise News Staff Somtochukwu Maduagwu Arrested
The Nigeria Police have arrested several suspects in connection with the armed robbery that led to the tragic death of Arise News staff member, Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu.

According to police authorities, the following individuals have been identified and arrested in connection with the incident:

Shamsudeen Hassan (Male), from Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State
Hassan Isah (Male), 22, from Zaria, Kaduna State
Abubakar Alkamu a.k.a. Abba (Male), 27, from Musawa LGA, Katsina State
Sani Sirajo a.k.a. Dan Borume (Male), 20, from Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State
Mashkur Jamilu a.k.a. Abba (Male), 28, from Igabi LGA, Kaduna State
Suleiman Badamasi a.k.a. Dan-Sule (Male), 21, from Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State
Abdul Salam Saleh a.k.a. Na-Durudu (Male), from Katsina LGA, Katsina State
Zaharadeen Muhammad a.k.a. Gwaska (Male), 23, from Chikun LGA, Kaduna State
Musa Adamu a.k.a. Musa Hassan (Male), 30, from Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State
Sumayya Mohammed a.k.a. Baby (Female), 27, from Saminaka LGA, Kaduna State
Isah Abdulrahman a.k.a. Abbati (Male), 25, from Zaria LGA, Kaduna State
Musa Umar a.k.a. Small (Male), 31, from Maiduguri LGA, Borno State

Arrest and Confessions
Shortly after the robbery, four suspects—Shamsudeen Hassan, Abubakar Alkamu, Sani Sirajo, and one other—were apprehended through the tracking of mobile phones stolen from the victims’ apartment.

During interrogation:

Shamsudeen Hassan confessed to fatally shooting the security guard who tried to stop them from entering the apartment.

Sani Sirajo admitted he attempted to prevent Somtochukwu Maduagwu from falling off the building but was unable to hold her due to her weight.

Shamsudeen also revealed he drove the white Honda CR-V used to flee the scene after the robbery.
All four suspects confirmed receiving ₦200,000 each from the proceeds of the crime.
Items Recovered
The following items were recovered from the suspects:

One (1) fabricated AK-47 rifle
Thirty-six (36) rounds of 9mm live ammunition
One (1) locally made pistol
One (1) pump-action gun
Two (2) live cartridges
Four (4) mobile phones belonging to the victims
Two (2) sharp knives
One (1) cutlass
Nine (9) torchlights used during the operation

Continued Investigation
On October 8, 2025, based on actionable digital intelligence and a tip-off, police operatives intercepted additional gang members — including Musa Umar a.k.a. Small and Hassan Isah — while they were en route to carry out another armed robbery in Maitama, Abuja, planned for the early hours of the following day.

All suspects have confessed to their roles in the Gishiri robbery. Investigations are still ongoing.
