Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced yesterday to 50 months in prison after being convicted in July on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
The sentence is significantly shorter than the 11 years federal prosecutors had pushed for, but longer than the 14 months his legal team requested—time he has already served. While prosecutors had once pursued a potential life sentence, Combs was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering earlier in the trial.
In delivering the sentence, the judge emphasized the need for accountability, stating that “exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability.”
Combs’ lawyer told ABC News that the ruling will be appealed, arguing the judge improperly acted as a “13th juror.”
