I heard he has to move the date or location, not so sure.

Activists of international environmental group Greenpeace deploy a giant banner displaying a picture of Jeff Bezos and reading "If you can rent Venice for your wedding you can pay more tax"

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding in Venice has drawn comparisons to an Amazon delivery: the event’s timing has shifted multiple times, its location changed unexpectedly, and many question whether it’s needed at all.

Reports suggest the lavish three-day celebration could kick off as early as Wednesday and run through Friday at a new, more secluded location. Initially, there were rumors the festivities would begin earlier in the city center, but local opposition reportedly forced a change of plans.

      So, why the backlash?

Locals are frustrated that the world’s fourth-richest man is monopolizing Venice’s already limited resources—particularly water taxis, which are strained under the weight of overtourism. Venice’s population has plummeted from around 100,000 in the 1980s to under 50,000 today, largely due to rising housing costs and the proliferation of hotels and short-term rentals. Environmental concerns have also been raised, especially as affluent guests arrive by private jet and yacht in a city already grappling with the effects of climate change.

The Bottom Line: Veneto regional president Luca Zaia estimates the event could inject between $23 million and $34 million into the local economy. Still, protesters remain skeptical that the economic boost will positively impact everyday Venetians.
