The Ogun State Police Command has successfully apprehended a suspect, Shedrack Olawale Olayemi, who had been on the run for armed robbery and rape. According to the police, Olayemi, 33, was arrested by the Igbeba Division, Ijebu-Ode, after being spotted in the Ijagun area of Tai Solarin University of Education, where he attempted to hide his identity.
Olayemi had been wanted for a July 2024 incident in which he and his accomplices allegedly broke into the Royal Villa accommodation at Tai Solarin University. During the robbery, the suspects stole luxury items like laptops, iPhones, and cash from female students and, tragically, one of the students was sexually assaulted.
Police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola confirmed that intelligence reports led to Olayemi’s arrest, and a preliminary investigation is now underway. The suspect has been transferred to the Igbeba Police Station and will soon be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has called for the arrest of Olayemi’s accomplices and urged the local community to come forward with any information that could help the police in their investigation
