The management of Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has debunked claims circulating on social media alleging an increase in tuition fees for the 2025/2026 academic session.

In an official memorandum signed by the Registrar, Mr. Yakubu F. Ayuba, and addressed to all students, the University clarified that tuition fees for both new and returning students have remained unchanged since 2022, despite current economic pressures and inflation.

      Clarification on New Charges
According to the memo, the misunderstanding likely stemmed from the introduction of a ₦5,000 ICT charge, which is not part of tuition fees. This fee, approved by the University’s Governing Council, was implemented to enhance ICT services and provide free internet access across campus.

The University further explained that the ₦10,000 Bench Fee, first introduced in 2021 to replace arbitrary departmental levies, remains valid. Initially applicable only to final-year students, the fee has now been extended to 22 departments whose programs involve fieldwork, excursions, and productions.

      Financial Support for Students
To assist students with tuition and related costs, PLASU encouraged eligible students to apply for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) recently launched by the Federal Government.

The management reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining affordable and transparent fee structures, ensuring that financial limitations do not hinder students’ access to quality education.
