Opay, one of Nigeria’s leading financial services companies, has announced a ₦60 million scholarship programme for students at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), reinforcing its commitment to education and youth empowerment.
The company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, Itoro Udo, revealed the initiative last Wednesday (March 19, 2025) during a visit to the university’s Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, FCIML.
Supporting Education for a Decade
The Opay Scholarship Programme is designed to ease the financial burden on students and promote access to quality education. The initiative will support 20 undergraduate students, each receiving ₦300,000 per session for 10 years.
This move is part of Opay’s ₦1.2 billion national scholarship programme, launched in 2024, which extends across 20 universities in Nigeria, with UNILORIN among the beneficiaries. Beyond financial aid, the company aims to enhance students’ employability and career prospects.
Next Steps & University’s Response
Udo stated that Opay would soon meet with Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, to provide a detailed briefing on the programme and ensure smooth implementation.
In response, Registrar Mr. Mansur Alfanla welcomed the initiative, expressing the university’s enthusiasm for student-focused programmes. He commended Opay for its commitment to empowering UNILORIN students, emphasizing that such support contributes to both academic excellence and personal development.
This scholarship marks another milestone in Opay’s mission to drive financial inclusion and educational advancement across Nigeria.
