Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail after pleading not guilty to charges of sex trafficking. A New York federal judge ruled him a “serious flight risk,” leading to his custody. The 54-year-old music icon faces accusations of running a criminal enterprise from 2008, using drugs and violence to exploit women for sex.

Reuters Sean "Diddy" Combs stands before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky after prosecutors brought three criminal charges against him in federal court in the Manhattan borough of New York City, U.S., September 17, 2024 in this courtroom sketch

The indictment lists charges of racketeering, sex trafficking by force, and transportation for prostitution. If convicted, Combs could face 15 years to life in prison. He pled “not guilty” in court, where his lawyer argued against the charges, calling them an “unjust prosecution.”

Prosecutors allege Combs orchestrated “Freak Offs,” where women were coerced into sex acts, often drugged to ensure compliance. During raids on his homes in Miami and Los Angeles, federal agents found firearms, ammunition, and a significant amount of controlled substances.

Combs, who has faced past accusations, including a civil lawsuit from his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, continues to deny all claims. Despite the serious charges, his legal team is appealing the bail decision, with a hearing set for Wednesday.

This case follows a history of sexual assault allegations against the music mogul, whose influence in the hip-hop and R&B world helped shape careers like Usher and Mary J Blige.
