Officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducted a raid in Kasholori, Ikorodu, and arrested a man (name withheld) without presenting any clear charges against him. According to reports, the officers apprehended the man while he was simply charging his phone inside his home.
Speaking with SaharaReporters on Wednesday, the victim described how the officers entered his house and arrested him without explanation while he was charging his phone. He stated that it was only through the intervention of the head of the Community Development Association (CDA) that he was eventually released.
“They took my phones, laptops, chargers, and other gadgets,” the victim recounted. He further explained that the CDA informed the NDLEA officers that they had raided the wrong house and that no one in the residence was involved in any illegal activities.
“After my brother went to the CDA to make a complaint, the officers claimed they did not realize it was our house they had raided and apologized. They then spoke with the CDA, which facilitated my release,” he added.
The victim also revealed that the NDLEA officials initially demanded N2 million for the return of his confiscated possessions but later reduced the amount to N500,000. “I have no idea where I am supposed to get that kind of money,” he said.
When SaharaReporters reached out to the spokesperson for the NDLEA, Mr. Femi Babafemi, he directed them to the Lagos State Commander of the agency, CN Abubakar Liman Wali, who pledged to look into the incident. “Please tell me the unit from which the officers came. I promise to investigate the matter myself. I would also appreciate it if you could provide me with the contact information of the suspect,” he stated. “We have officers who head each zone, and I won’t allow any officers to put me in trouble.”
