NABTEB: Just 9,389 Pass 2025 Federal Technical Colleges Exam

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) revealed that only 9,389 out of 24,074 candidates who took the 2025 entrance exam for Federal Technical Colleges achieved a score of 50% or higher.

Dr. Aminu Mohammed, NABTEB’s Registrar and CEO, shared this update during a results announcement in Benin on Wednesday, kicking off a three-day process to select and place students into technical colleges across Nigeria.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the results highlight a challenging outcome, with just 39% of candidates passing. Dr. Mohammed broke it down further: only 316 candidates, or 1.31%, scored 70% or above, while a staggering 14,685, making up 61%, fell below the 50% mark. Notably, just eight candidates—0.03%—topped the list with the highest ranks.

Dr. Mohammed stressed the need for a merit-based selection process, urging stakeholders to pick the most capable and driven students for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). “I’m eager for a fair, open, and merit-driven selection that brings in our brightest talents,” he said. “Getting this right will pave the way for our students’ success and boost our institutions’ standing.” He also praised the Federal Government’s renewed push for technical education, thanking the Minister of Education and the Minister of State for Education for their support.

Represented by Dr. Muibat Olodo, Director of Technology and Science Education, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa echoed this commitment. He called on education leaders to fully implement policies aimed at uplifting students, colleges, and the nation despite ongoing challenges.

Alausa also announced the launch of two new Federal Technical Colleges in Enugu and Plateau states to widen access, with plans underway for three more to ensure every state and the Federal Capital Territory has at least one.

The event drew principals from Federal Technical Colleges nationwide, Federal Ministry of Education officials, NABTEB staff, and other key players in technical education development, all gathered to shape the future of skilled learning in Nigeria.
