MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a significant price reduction for its DStv decoder, cutting the cost by 50%—from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000—in a strategic move aimed at boosting subscriptions and expanding its customer base.
The company revealed the new pricing as part of its “We Got You” campaign, which seeks to reward customer loyalty and provide greater value amid ongoing economic challenges.
In a statement released on Tuesday, John Ugbe, Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, explained,
“We want our customers to feel valued and have daily access to world-class entertainment. The ‘We Got You’ campaign reflects our commitment to making premium content more accessible. DStv has something for everyone—not just football lovers.”
Ugbe added that the brand is repositioning itself as a platform for everyday value, offering a wide range of genres including movies, drama, kids’ entertainment, and news, thereby encouraging broader content discovery.
As part of the promotional offer, customers who renew their current DStv subscription in full between June 16 and July 31, 2025, will receive a free upgrade to the next higher package tier.
MultiChoice noted that both the decoder price slash and the free upgrade are measures to address the financial pressures currently affecting many Nigerians.
The announcement follows a sharp decline in the company’s subscriber base, which dropped by 1.4 million users between March 2023 and March 2025.
This development also comes in the wake of multiple subscription fee increases by MultiChoice within a year—first in April 2023, then November 2023, and most recently in April 2024, which took effect on May 1.
