Mark Cuban Says He Declined VP Consideration Under Kamala Harris: “She Would Have Fired Me”

Businessman and Shark Tank star Mark Cuban has confirmed that he turned down an opportunity to be considered as Kamala Harris’ running mate during her 2024 presidential campaign, citing his blunt personality and lack of political polish.

In a recent interview on The Bulwark podcast, host Tim Miller asked Cuban about rumors that he was approached to submit vetting papers for the vice-presidential slot. Cuban confirmed the story, saying, “I’m not very good as a number-two person. The last thing we need is me telling Kamala, the president, ‘No, that’s a dumb idea.’”

Cuban added with a laugh, “She would’ve fired me within six days.”

Known for his straight-talking persona and business acumen, Cuban noted that his lack of traditional political skills — “I’m not really good at shaking hands and kissing babies” — made him a poor fit for the role. He also acknowledged that while his approach may have changed the campaign dynamics, “it would have been awful.”

Harris ultimately selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Cuban remained a vocal supporter of Harris after President Joe Biden unexpectedly exited the race in mid-2024. He campaigned on her behalf in key swing states and made several appearances at rallies.

“I really thought she was going to win,” he told Miller. However, the 2024 election ended with a victory for Donald Trump and his VP pick J.D. Vance.
