Ilorin, Nigeria – The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, Adeta, Ilorin, due to recurring student unrest, according to a statement released on Wednesday by Peter Amogbonjaye, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development.

Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, stated that the closure was essential to restore order and ensure the safety of students and staff. The decision follows reports of violent clashes among students, disruptions to academic activities, and vandalism of school property at both institutions.

The statement clarified that only students participating in the ongoing Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE) and their teachers will be allowed on school premises during the examination period. “Dr. Olohungbebe urged students involved in the SSSCE to wear their identification cards when entering school premises and encouraged parents and guardians to keep their children at home during this period,” the statement noted.

The commissioner warned that security personnel would apprehend any student violating the closure directive. The Kwara State Government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline and safety across all public schools in the state.
