The FBI has officially returned items stolen from Keanu Reeves’ home during a 2023 jewelry heist, the agency announced Tuesday, Nov. 18.
In a press release, the FBI confirmed the recovered belongings were delivered back to Reeves, 61 — who also sent a handwritten note expressing his gratitude. “It is with profound gratitude and appreciation that I am writing this letter,” the Matrix star began, thanking the agencies involved. He ended the note with: “Thank you so much for all your effort, dedication, professionalism and cross-border cooperation. My warmest regards, Keanu.”
Chilean authorities had announced on July 29 that they would return the items, which included six valuable watches.
Among the watches was an engraved Rolex Submariner valued at no less than $9,500 — part of a collection worth about $125,000, according to a Chilean robbery-squad officer who spoke to the Associated Press.
Chilean prosecutors told reporters that Reeves identified the watches as the same ones taken from his Los Angeles home in December 2023. CNN previously reported the watches resurfaced in eastern Santiago in December 2024, where one suspect was arrested in connection with what authorities described as “violent robberies.”
“This case is a perfect example of the excellent international cooperation we enjoy with our Chilean counterparts and our local partners at the Los Angeles Police Department,” said Akil Davis, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office.
“While burglary is a local crime in the United States,” Davis continued, “the FBI works collaboratively with the LAPD and others to share intelligence through our Major Theft Task Force and additional channels. These crimes impact celebrities and everyday people alike, and the FBI remains committed to helping our local partners fight this growing threat.”
The FBI stated the theft was carried out by “South American Theft Groups,” described as criminal networks whose members travel internationally to commit coordinated burglaries.
The agency added that it is “actively investigating multiple SATG-linked crimes with local partners across numerous U.S. jurisdictions.”
Chilean officials shared images of the recovered watches on social media.
In August, Reeves met with FBI personnel and a Chilean PDI officer in New York to collect the returned items, the agency confirmed.

“This case underscores how crime today knows no borders, and how vital our international partnerships are in bringing justice to victims here in Los Angeles,” LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said in the FBI statement.
“The recovery of these stolen items — thanks to the coordinated work of the Policía de Investigaciones de Chile, the FBI, and our detectives — sends a strong message that organized theft groups will be pursued wherever they operate,” McDonnell added. “I’m proud of the work our team and our partners have done to hold these criminal networks accountable.”
